Seattle Prep’s Class of 2025 standout, Grace Renners, is making waves on the basketball scene as a 6’2 forward with versatile skills. Playing for both her high school team and the prestigious AAU program FBC United West Coast, Grace is known for her competitive spirit, team-first mentality, and her all-around game. Recently committed to Cornell University, she’s primed for a bright future both on and off the court. We had the opportunity to sit down with Grace and learn more about her journey, inspirations, and what’s ahead for her.
A Love for the Game, Rooted in Family
Grace’s basketball journey began at a young age, largely thanks to the influence of her father.
“I’ve been playing basketball for as long as I can remember,” Grace shares. “I got into basketball and all sports because it’s so fun, and I really love playing hoops with my dad.”
Her competitive drive and passion for the game are evident, but for Grace, it’s the joy of being part of a team that keeps her motivated. Whether it’s a casual game with family or a high-stakes matchup, basketball is where she feels most at home.
Versatility on the Court
Grace’s height and athleticism allow her to play multiple positions, a trait that sets her apart from many of her peers.
“I primarily play the 3 and the 4, but I pride myself on being able to play all five positions if needed,” Grace explains. “My strengths on the court are being a great teammate and always trying to make the right play to help my team win. I love blocking shots, making hustle plays, knocking down the three, and getting ‘and one’ three-point plays.”
This ability to contribute in various ways makes Grace a valuable asset to any team she’s on.
A Balanced Routine
Balancing academics and basketball is a challenge for many student-athletes, but Grace has found a way to make it work.
“My typical training routine is to do something every day to get faster, quicker, and stronger, and improve my dribbling, shooting, and passing. I balance my academics by focusing 100% on whatever I’m doing at the moment, and if I need a ‘brain break,’ I go play basketball or do a quick workout.”
Her disciplined approach has helped her excel in both arenas, a testament to her work ethic.
Inspired by Family
When asked about her biggest inspiration, Grace doesn’t hesitate to mention her dad.
“My dad has been my biggest inspiration. He’s taught me so much about the game and how to play it the right way. He’s always there for me, and I love playing basketball with him.”
From learning the game to carrying herself like a pro on and off the court, Grace credits her father for shaping her into the player and person she is today.
Goals: From High School to the Ivy League
Grace’s immediate focus is on her current high school season, with one clear objective in mind: winning the Washington State title with Seattle Prep. But her ambitions don’t stop there.
“Next season, I want to be a starter at Cornell University and earn Freshman of the Year in the Ivy League,” she says confidently.
Her recent commitment to Cornell University marks an exciting next step in her journey, and she’s ready for the challenge. “I’m super pumped and really excited about it! #RunRed #DreamBig.”
Advice for the Next Generation
Grace’s success on the court is inspiring to many younger athletes, and she has some words of wisdom for those looking to follow in her footsteps.
“Be the hardest worker on any team, the most positive and inspirational player, and the most coachable. Always enjoy the journey and have a ‘get to’ rather than a ‘have to’ mentality. It makes everything so much more amazing, fun, and satisfying.”
The Road Ahead
As Grace Renners prepares for her final high school season and her future at Cornell, one thing is certain: her combination of talent, hard work, and leadership will continue to shine. Whether it’s dominating on the court or leading by example, Grace is ready to take her game to the next level.
The Big Red family is getting a fierce competitor and a dedicated teammate, and the future of basketball looks bright with Grace Renners in the spotlight.
